A “Unique Approach” from our Founder, Steve Meizlish

For decades, I admittedly viewed business through fairly narrow, rational norms, metrics and methodologies.  For me, life was supposed to be somewhat unilateral and simplistic. It either fit or it didn’t. I was a very successful serial entrepreneur – classically trained in such things as psychology, political science and philosophy, and proven business models -- and had been doing business consulting productively for nearly a decade.  Frankly, in hindsight, I should have been more enlightened, but like many of my peers, I was not. I often was openly and admittedly frustrated by the seemingly “highly irrational side” of many of the professionals that engaged me and the people in my orbit.  And that undoubtedly was more than disturbing to me. 

Serendipitously, one day in 2008, something unexpected occurred. My wife was watching a taped episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Uncharacteristically, I decided to sit down on the sofa and watch. Turns out that Oprah had selected A New Earth for her book club in January 2008 and was now featuring the author, Eckhart Tolle. 

While A New Earth was clearly a self-improvement book that encouraged its readers to live their lives in each present moment and to create happiness for themselves without emphasizing material possessions, for me it was clear there was much more to be learned. As I listened, I realized I have to immediately get this book. And so I did. Within days I discovered that Tolle's intent is to change the way human beings think, and he envisions a world population that is increasingly humble, enlightened and pure. According to Tolle, the book's purpose "is not to add new information or beliefs to your mind or to try to convince you of anything, but to bring about a shift in consciousness.” And shift my consciousness it did! I discovered that everyone can find "the freedom and joy of life" if they simply live in the present moment and rid ourselves of what he refers to as Ego and Pain Body. I immediately realized two critical and very personal things: These concepts were more than interesting to me; and I had never really lived in the present and experienced the “now.” 

So in 2014, following my discovery and intense study over a six-year period, I formally integrated A New Earth’s more humanistic and wholistic teachings into my traditional consulting firms work. NOW Coaching™ was born.  As one client called it, NOW Coaching™ is the “mash-up of a hard-core business consultancy with the enlightenment and deep understanding of everyday vexing issues of the existential humanistic being.”  Simply put, we are the not only necessary, but we are the best of both worlds.
